ICEFIELD TOUR COMPANY HELPS STARS HANDLE EMERGENCIES

Refuelling in Canadian Rockies Gives Air Ambulance Chance to Help More Victims While Icefield Helicopter Tours Evacuates a Patient

CLINE RIVER, Alberta – World famous Icefield Helicopter Tours in the Canadian Rockies helped the STARS air ambulance handle two emergencies Sunday.

Icefield Helicopter Tours, renowned for its spectacular sightseeing, yoga, hiking, horseback and fishing experiences, jumped to the aid of STARS to provide refuelling when the air ambulance service needed to handle an unexpected second major accident.

STARS was initially called out to the West Country off the Icefield Parkway between Banff and Jasper to transport a patient injured while quading. It was then unexpectedly required to divert to Field, BC for a motor vehicle accident, necessitating emergency refuelling of the helicopter at the tour company’s Cline River Heliport, located one and a half hours west of Rocky Mountain House.

Icefield Helicopter Tours voluntarily placed their own A-Star 350BA helicopter on standby for the quad accident and were later called upon to evacuate the patient and transport him to hospital.

“STARS does such a tremendous job we were really pleased to provide an opportunity that allowed the doctors to help more injured people,” said Ralph Sliger, owner of the tour company. “Now we have been called on to evacuate the original patient. We always have excitement around here with visitors awed by their experiences but this was another kind of rewarding experience.”

Icefield Helicopter Tours offers daily heli-sightseeing tour, heli-hiking, heli-yoga and heli-horseback from its Cline River Heliport along highway 11 just east of the Saskatchewan River Crossing, and is the closest Heliport to the Columbia Icefield.
